Funding Lexington Parks
This election year’s ballot will feature a local measure regarding the establishment of a dedicated fund for Lexington’s parks. John’s Run/Walk Shop supports this ballot initiative, as it will help ensure Lexington’s excellent park system is expanded, maintained, and made more accessible for generations to come.

What Is Yes for Parks About?
Voting Yes for Parks this November establishes a dedicated fund for Lexington's 105+ parks, providing $8 million dollars annually to improve and develop neighborhood parks, playgrounds, walking and hiking trails, and other recreation facilities in every corner of our city - all for about a dollar a week for the average homeowner.
These investments will deliver transformational and sustained neighborhood infrastructure investment in parks, trails, open spaces, and recreational facilities in every council district, enabling the most significant improvement in quality of life in our city in a generation.
Investing in parks will also improve neighborhood safety and act as an economic development magnet, attracting new, high-paying jobs to Lexington.
To date, Yes for Parks has received endorsements from more than 100 business, community, and neighborhood leaders in Lexington, demonstrating widespread support for the parks funding ballot referendum and the positive impact it will have on Lexington’s neighborhoods and local economy.
What will I see on my ballot in November?
The following language was unanimously approved by the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council to appear on the November 5, 2024 General Election ballot:
“For ratification of the establishment of a dedicated public “Park Fund” program that will provide funds to improve and develop neighborhood parks, walking and hiking trails, nature parks, bike trails, swimming pools, playgrounds, dog parks, recreational facilities, and other related facilities for children, adults, families, and seniors to be financed by the levy of an additional two and one-quarter cents ($0.0225) per one hundred dollars ($100) on all taxable real property, effective January 1, 2025?”
